Since 1983, MRIKPA has been here for people affected by kidney disease, at every stage of the journey, from diagnosis through dialysis, transplant and ongoing care. Bringing people together has always been at the heart of what we do. This spring, we’re doing exactly that in a new way.
We are delighted to launch our Greater Manchester Casual Park Walks – informal, relaxed get-togethers for kidney patients of any age or stage of their CKD or transplant journey, along with family members, friends and carers. Our first two walks take place at Wythenshawe Park on:
- Thursday 23rd April 2026, 2:00–4:00pm
- Thursday 14th May 2026, 2:00–4:00pm
Walk for as long, or as little, as you like — at a pace that suits you — whilst enjoying some park life and the company of people who understand.
Chair of MRIKPA, Guy Hill, said: “One of the things we hear most from members is how isolating kidney disease can feel, and how much it means simply to be around others who know what it’s like. These walks are our answer to that… no pressure, no agenda, just good company and fresh air. We’re inviting patients at all stages of their journey, their family and friends and the carers and professionals who support us all. We really hope to see as many of you as possible starting at Wythenshawe Park this April and May. Bring someone along with you if you’d like! We look forward to seeing you there.”
On our Park Walks page you will find full details of the meeting point, a downloadable route map, and the option to add either walk straight to your Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook in a single click. You can also RSVP using the contact form on the page, or join our WhatsApp group for updates closer to the day.
After Wythenshawe, we are hoping to take the walks to other parts of Greater Manchester so the committee would genuinely love to hear what would work best for you. Would you prefer a third walk back in south Manchester at Wythenshawe, or would you like us to move to Heaton Park in the north, Woodbank Park in Stockport to the east, or Longford Park more centrally?
Please do let us know through the contact form on the walks page, or by emailing support@mrikpa.org.uk.
Every response will help us plan better and bring more people together throughout 2026.
